- Description:
- T1 Beech - We have climbed and inspected the cavities on this tree. There is a cavity at approximately 15ft from ground level. This runs into the tree some distance, with approximately 4 inches of sound wood all round. The cavity runs down approximately 12 inches in to the tree and up from the cavity at 3ft. This tree has already been reduced due to the weakness higher up. In view of the findings of the climbing inspection, it would be prudent to carry out another crown reduction to this tree, due to the condition of the cavity at 15ft. Recommendations for this tree would be to thin the crown by 30%, removing dead and diseased wood and crossing branches. T2 Beech - on the right hand side is in a similar condition. The cavity here is at approximately 20ft. The cavity runs down some 2ft down into the tree and up about 3ft above. This tree has approximately 6 inches of sound wood all round. Within the cavity there are a number of fungal brackets, these being Galderma, which is a decaying fungus. There is also a risk with this tree that it could snap out. There has been some surgery work carried out many years ago to this tree but nothing recently. To retain this tree in a safe condition, I would recommend that this tree be reduced substantially to accommodate for the weakness within the cavity at 20ft.I would therefore recommend carrying out a 25% crown reduction on this tree. Some of the branches over the small Copper Beech will have to be lowered with the aide of ropes to avoid damaging the small trees and shrubs beneath. There is one branch over the Lilac and shrub bed, which is to be removed back to the main trunk. This is close to the cavity on the main trunk. The centre of the tree is to be lightly thinned. T3 - Twin stemmed tree - On the opposite of the garden. Both stems have cavities at the base. Recommendations are that these two trees be felled to ground level.
