Description:
Alder (Alnus glutinosa) situated next to garden shed. It's grown very large and is blocking light from the social club next to my cottage as well as casting a long shade over my garden. If it was to come down it would certainly hit the social club. I originally wanted to remove one of the two trunks (the other is less dominant and leaning backwards so not a problem) however the tree surgeon has suggested this isn't a viable long term solution because the resulting would inevitably rot and eventually destabilise the remaining trunk. He has suggested removing the tree entirely and replacing with something more appropriate. I am proposing a silver birch (Betula pendula) or a winter flower cherry (Prunus subhirtella Autumnalis) situated a bit further back in the corner of the back of the garden.
