Description:
Hi I'm emailing regarding the Horse Chesnut in our garden. There's only one TPO tree in our garden. It stands next to the stream downflow from the weir.In Storm Ciara it has lost a huge branch which went sideways over the stream. When the branch split off, its torn a huge hole in the main trunk around 30 ft up. The tree has quite a bit of canker and it seems like the area where the branch joined the trunch had all become weak. The tree is still its full height (around 80ft) but with the damage to the main trunk we believe its unsafe. The remaining branches are now weighted to the side of the tree nearest the house, and if it comes down in the direction of the house, it is tall enough/close enough to hit the house.I've booked Nick Bailey tree surgeons to take it down Monday 24 Feb, leaving a habitat stump around where the tree divides into the main canopy, a bit above the hole. This is costing us a lot of money and we do it reluctantly as its a lovely habitat for bird and we've loved it over the last 10 years, but we can't leave it in its current state. We are happy to plant a replacement tree, on the other side of the stream so it has a clear space to grow, and I've got in mind an alder as I think it will do better being near the stream. Please can you confirm this is ok. TPO 383W.
