- Description:
- Large Horse Chestnut on Corner of Bird Farm Road and Pierce Lane I am aware that this tree is not the best specimen having several strips of dead cambium / bark probably caused by Phytopthora root disease in the recent past. It would be reasonable to think that the previous crown reduction works was to mitigate this defect the tree has not grown vigorously since then. The new growth is now clearly evident and its removal would reduce the weight and sail area of the crown whilst still retaining the tree. This would be good practice as the new growth has weak attachments as the old wounds decay. It is fair to say that the tree could last another 5-10 years.
