This would help stop down - draught down chimney and prevent it touching roof. Consent has been given for 1m crown reduction (15/02500/CA) but our tree surgeon has explained that this will be difficult to achieve since branches are so thin on the ends. He considers that 2m will be better for the tree (since in 2-3 years it will have regrown) and safer for climbers these figures have beeen reached after conversation with council officer and tree surgeon.
