- Description:
- Tree species - Tilia cordata Number of trees - 2 Proposed work - Pollard Reasons for work - On the 10th of January 2018 I was given permission to carry out tree work on a number of trees within a conservation area. Document reference TW/17/0123/TPO This included the two Lime trees above. The previous permission granted on the Limes was to 'Crown thin epicormic shoots not exceeding 12.5% of crown density and crown tidy by removing dead, dying and diseased wood'. However this after further investigation we would like to receive permission to pollard both Lime trees. Lime tree 1 - This tree is situated on the boundary fence which runs alongside the public footpath and Church Road. Approximately 20 Meters away is Newick Pre school. The lime tree has previously been pollarded most likely after damage from the 1987 storm. From where the last pollard there has been a good amount of healthy new growth which has formed a new multi stemmed canopy. At the bottom of where this growth stems from is now full of wet decaying leaf matter which is starting to rot the union. My suggestion would be to re pollard back to this point to relieve stress on this area of the tree especially with the public footpath, road and pre school being so close. This pollard would reduce the tree by approximately 60%. Lime tree 2 - This is located on the fence line just off a private road from Church road. My Suggestion would to be to carry out a pollard back to timber which is 30cm in diameter. Neighbours have complained about this tree shedding limbs in the past. At the same time a crown tidy cutting out dead, dying and diseased wood to maintain the health of the tree. This pollard would reduce the tree by approximately 30/40%.
