Description:
Area 2 of Wood 5 is mostly trees aged about 30 years. There is no evidence that these have ever been thinned and as a result, there is a high density of tall spindly trees. The trees are mostly scots pine, silver birch, and beech with a few lime and oak. The application is to thin out the trees to a spacing of 4-5 metres, retaining the stronger trees. There is also some under growth of rhododendron ponticum and elder which we would wish to remove. The purpose of this work is to encourage the growth of strong mature trees.
