It is recommended:The Lime tree situated as detailed in the application is seen to be of high public amenity and an important arboreal feature to the seen from Howgate road. The light loss and debris reasons given in the application for the tree's removal are considered insufficient to fell the tree. It is also felt the reasons given in the application could be address with lesser arboricultural practices that would not require the trees removal. For this reason, the council could not justify giving the consent to the lime trees removal at this time.Allowance of lesser works:From the site visit it was seen the tree has been reduced significantly in the past from which it has now grown back from. It is felt the tree could be reduced again to address the issue of light and debris. This would be best achieved through the pollarding of the tree to around the previous pruning points. This will reduce light loss and the debris issues. As a result it is considered acceptable to pollarded the tree to previous pruning points.
