Description:

The tree is infected with the fungus Inonotus dryadeus. Reducing the crown will lessen the wind sail effect of the crown and reduce the risk of the tree being wind thrown. As discussed by phone, the removal of the tarmac directly over the roots and replacing with mulch would be beneficialfor the tree, but this would mean losing a large portion of the driveway. Alternatively the tarmac could be replaced with block paving which would allow more natural drainage into the soil surrounding the tree roots
