- Address:
- Romanhurst Main Road Tydd St Mary Wisbec
- Description:
- Application to remove the remains of a once magnificent, small-leaved lime tree. The tree is situated on the southern lawn of the property known as Romanhurst,Tydd St.Mary and is identified as T3 of Tydd St Mary Tree Preservation Order No. 8 1997. This, until recently, exceptionally fine looking small-leaved lime, had become infected by a species of Ganoderma fungi. The first evidence of the fruiting bodies of the fungi was only noted two or three years ago. Over a period of four weeks the tree collapsed in three different incidents leaving only a few unsafe boughs. (The final collapse being in November 2013).The trunk of the tree had totally disintegrated, revealing extensive rotten wood, likely to be the home of lesser stag beetles. The trunk was so extensively rotted, it was not worth keeping as a pollarded stump.
