Address:
68 Becketts Lane Great Boughton Chester Cheshire
Description:
Lime (G1) - fell to ground level and grind out stumps. This linier group of trees has been topped to 4m in the past and pollarded again at a height of 9m in 2014. Any amenity value they once afforded has now gone and they no longer warrant the protection of a Tree Preservation Order. The land owner wishes to remove the trees as they are located too close to a recently constructed detached residential dwelling and appear over dominant and oppressive due to the rapid re-growth of epicormic shoots that are forming a secondary crown above and around the previous pollard points. This adventitious re-growth has a weak attachment to the parent stem and regularly fails when loaded or during inclement weather conditions. As the trees dominate this area of the garden making it completely unusable they cannot be retained without constant re-pollarding in order to prevent constant crown failures. This would then continually leave a row of stumps that are an unattractive feature to any residential garden and the surrounding locale. It is also unreasonable to force this financial burden on the homeowner when they would be better removed and replaced with an attractive boundary hedge and fastigiate trees that would continue to provide a green boundary treatment whilst enhancing the landscape character and setting of the site as opposed to needlessly retaining trees that have clearly been a problem for many years and have now outgrown this confined space.
