- Description:
- T1, Poplar at the rear of the property. This is a very healthy large poplar tree, over the past few years it has shed its top, then a big lateral branch, now another lateral branch hangs from the crown. The tree spreads over several rear gardens and although not really obvious to see I suspect the shed leader has promoted the growth of the lateral branches leading to their overloading and subsequent failure. The more of the crown that falls off the more likely it is another branch will produce more foliage to compensate and subsequently overload and fail. There are also tear out wounds in the crown and the tree has been crown lifted in the past.Pollarding to a clean boling would remove the chance of branch failure and the hazard this poses to parties nearby however having experienced the on-costs of managing a mature poplar shedding parts of itself the tree owner after considerable thought would like to remove and replace the tree. The tree in its current condition poses an unreasonable liability for the owner and is a hazard to persons and property nearby through its continued and inevitable branch failure, removal of the branches would remove this risk as well as the amenity value of the tree and so replacement of the tree seems appropriate. Consent to replace this tree with a 4-5 m tall purple dawyk beech is requested. TPO 432W.
