- 2 Claycutters Winslow Buckinghamshir
- Description:
- Ash 1: shear fracture failure of co-dominant ash stem. Since the order was first made in 1986 there has been no evidence of reduction work to the crown to alleviate the leaver arm effect on the fork (P6). Reaction wood either side of the fork (P9) confirms the bark inclusion with a failure to occlude and fuse the fork. The shear fracture has opened up large surface area of exposed woody tissue which is extremely susceptible to colonisation especially given the time of the year. Drying and dysfunction of this tissue will occur and resulting stress from the fracture rendering the tree vulnerable. The fracture extended to 300mm above ground level (P7/8) and possible extension into the root plate (not confirmed). The south west facing stem was swaying at the point of failure 100mm-200mm with an increase of 250mm with gusts but a more concerning factor was the stem was twisting on its axis also, due to the trees location this posed an immediate threat to life and houses located in its fall zone. The tree was stabilised and felled immediately.
