- Description:
- The tree in question is a mature Lime identified as T1 on the supporting sketch plan. It is approximately 8m in height and 8m in breadth. It is considered that the tree has some amenity value due to its visibility to users of Grantham Road. The tree is located within the garden of the applicant's neighbour and partially overhangs the footpath adjacent to Grantham Road (Image 1). The tree has previously been pruned in order to clear a low-voltage power line running through the canopy above the footpath (Image 2). The applicant and the tree's owner are concerned that the tree is resulting in excessive shading (Image 4) to their gardens and is encroaching on the eves of the properties (Images 2 and 3). It is proposed that the crown of the tree be thinned by no more than 30% in order to allow more light through the canopy and reduced shading. It is also proposed that the tree undergo a partial crown reduction of approximately 1-1.5m (on the Northern, Eastern and Southern aspects of the tree) reshaping and balancing to achieve a finished height of approximately 7m and a finished breadth of approximately 6-7m (indicated in Images 1 and 5). It is considered that this will not affect the amenity value of the tree.
