Address:
Court Cottage 27 Lighthouse Road St Margarets Bay Kent
Description:
This application applies collectively to eighteen (18) holm oaks growing along the south-eastern boundary of my property. None of these trees is individually identified in the relevant Tree Protection Order, which instead applies to all trees in the bottom four or five metres of my land. The trees are all growing from the very edge of a steep bank where the ground level falls about two metres from the level of my garden down to St Margaret's Road. These trees seem to have first been planted as a sort of hedge or screen, but have now grown to about 18 to 20 metres in height and are all leaning out significantly from the top of the bank and overhang my boundary by about three metres, overhanging St Margaret's Road. The roots of the trees are exposed in the vertical face of the bank (see photos). Although the trees all appear healthy, this is becoming a safety concern, gven our increasingly windy weather. The trees have grown significantly since first being protected nearly thirty years ago and now appear overcrowded and too big for their location and proximity to the road and to neighbouring properties. I want to perform 'whole crown reductions' on all these trees to reduce their height to around ten metres above ground level (12 metres above St Margaret's Road) and reduce their spread by a similar proportion - between one-third and one-quarter.
