- Description:
- T1 Oak – reduce sub lateral branches extending to east by approximately 2 metres to reduce load around branch where it is rubbing the primary stem. Shorten other selected branches to balance and maintain a flowing canopy line. T2 Oak – Fell. Reason: The remaining co-dominant stem is heavily biased to the south over the garden and has incurred several significant lateral branch failures over the last 12months which have been addressed as exempt works and in tree work applications. A linear crack (Hazard beam) is now extending along the lowest remaining scaffold branch extending to the south over the garden. Removal of this branch will significantly un-balance the tree and there are not considered to be any suitable alternative pruning solutions to reduce the weight on this defective branch without un balancing the remaining upper canopy. Replacement plant with a Silver birch or similar : exact choice of tree, bushes or shrubs subject to further advice from CEC Arboricultural Officer. Project : 31 Fields Road, Alsager Cheshire ST7 2NA The copse of multiple oak trees at 31 Fields Road represents the evolving remains of a large historic oak wood at ‘The Fields’, a rural area of Alsager prior to the establishment of Fields Road at the end of the 19th Century. It is a valuable local asset, both through the trees’ inherent attractiveness, and their contribution to the environmental balance of the town by helping combat climate change by reducing harmful emissions. Our recent move to Alsager took place in full awareness of our responsibilities as property owners for this copse of trees, which has been appallingly mismanaged and ill-treated for decades by previous owners and contemporary responsible local authorities. The overgrowth and interweaving of the trees, and their general condition (evidenced by serious outbreaks of lateral branch failures and cracks as well as sporadic trunk rot and heavy aphid infestations) demonstrates the parlous state of the copse, and the condition of its 18 inter-dependent oak trees. As a foundation of our project to improve and enhance the oak copse at 31 Fields Road, we commissioned a full Report from national arboreal experts Tree Heritage (Hugh Williams) and further detailed inspections by established and experienced Alsager tree specialist Tom Broad Tree Services Ltd. during 2021 and more recently. Application for Tree Works Previous tree work covered by Cheshire East Application for Tree Works 21/5162T was approved and implemented by Tom Broad Tree Services. During this work in Spring 2022, further problems were identified, including previously-unidentified defects as noted during the most recent Site Inspection by Cheshire East Council’s Arboricultural Officer Emma Hood on 17th May 2022. This subsequent Application for Tree Works explores these emerging problems,
