- Description:
- There are approximately 300 to 400 trees on the site. To the rear of the site the majority of the woodland has previously been managed but unfortunately over the years this has fell into decline and requires attention to bring it back to a manageable state for the health of the woodland. This application is to carry out works on a vast number of trees from mature tree crown lifting, shrub reduction, felling of dead/dangerous/leaning trees, coppicing, hedge reduction. We have recently carried out shrub reduction works within the grounds within the limitations of the laws of the conservation area however to be able to carry out further works we are submitting this application. Please see plan attached. Section 1 This section of woodland consists of Laurel, Holly and Box as shrubs which in recent years has not been maintained. The plan is to reduce the height of these to 1m, removing certain shrubs that are either detrimental to the health of other trees or are heavy leaning. This area also consists of mature Holly and Plaine trees in which little work is required, except from removing a few small branches to form a crown lift to the height of 3m to allow light to the woodland floor. This section also contains a few Yew tree specimens, in which a small crown lift and dead wood removal would be needed. At the very front of this section is a mature Box tree with a slight tear in the twin union, i am of the opinion to brace the two unions together and reduce the weight of the branches by giving a 20% reduction. Section 2 Consisting of rows of Lime trees which have epicormic basal growth, our intent is to remove this basal growth. Section 3 A line of Beech trees previously cut to form a hedge but left in recent years to grow into trees, the aim is to cut back branches that over hang and lift to the height of 3m to allow the client to see to their boundary. In this line of Beech trees there is also a clump of overgrown Box shrubs and the intent is to reduce down to the manageable height of 1m, to keep it as a shrub. Section 4 L shaped Box hedge. it is approximately 10 feet tall, 6-8 feet wide and a length of roughly 60 feet. The client has stated he would like the hedge to be reduced by 50% but we advised this was a bad decision, advising a more reasonable 30% reduction, alas the client is intent on reducing the hedge to below eye level, again to see to the extent of his boundary, thus, approximately to the height of 5 feet or below. We would appreciate the tree officers input and advice what he thinks would be acceptable without running the risk of killing the hedge. Section 5 On the right of the drive as you enter, in a small enclosed area of garden there are 3 overgrown shrubs in which the client is intent on bringing back to a manageable height, therefore reducing the 2 Holly trees and 1 Yew tree to the height of 5 feet.
