A tree surgeons opinion is that they should be removed. Both trees in small congested areas with no plans at the moment for replacement , particularly in view of the honey fungus present, although we hope to find large fungus resistant shrubs.1. Flowering Cherry. Honey fungus. Increasing loss of leaves over the past three years . Fungus around the base last year and this year. Forsythia shrub nearby died 2 years ago with fungus around the base. Twigs on flowering cherry are dead . 2. Hawthorne. Decreasing amount of foliage over past two years. This year the leaves present were small and shrivelled. The Hawthorne is hard up against a large yew and an old wall .
